Wissahickon Club established, the first in the nation founded to serve an African-American community

1906

Philadelphia Clubs join 49 other organizations to charter what has become Boys & Girls Clubs of America

1938 Northeast Frankford Club established
1941 Bridesburg Club established
1974

Wissahickon, Frankford, Bridesburg and Nicetown join to create Boys Clubs of Metropolitan Philadelphia Clubs expand services to include after-school child care

1981

Germantown Club joins consolidated entity Name changed to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Philadelphia

1996

West Kensington, first new club in five decades, established to serve Latino community

1997

Pre-school addition built at Bridesburg Club. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Philadelphia Endowment Fund established

1998

Boys & Girls Clubs serves an unprecented 7,000 youngsters. Boys & Girls Clubs of America serves 3 million youth nationwide

1999

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metroplitan Philadelphia is host organization of National Keystone Conference, bringing together youth leaders from 2,000 Boys & Girls Clubs organizations throughout the United States

Name changed to Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia

2001

Boys & Girls Clubs implement 21st Century technology programs.

2002

Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia hosts largest Regional Keystone teen conference ever, with over 800 attendees. Nicetown and West Kensington Boys & Girls Clubs receive a major grant from the City of Philadelphia to implement teen programs in their areas.

2003

Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia continues to grow, serving over 12,900 youth

2004

The Annenberg Foundation makes a major grant to expand Project Learn from two to five Clubs. Mariana Bracetti Charter Academy site receives its Unit Charter. Proposed Frankford Valley Boys & Girls Club opens in August 2004 in a charter school. Boys & Girls Clubs of America reaches 3,400 Clubs, serving 4.4 millions youth.

2005

First Lady Laura Bush visits Germantown Boys & Girls Club for tour and program; event covered on national television news, New York Times, People, and other publications. Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia opens its eighth full service club, Feltonville Boys & Girls Club.

2006

Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia now serves over 13,800 children and youth. Boys & Girls Clubs of America celebrates its Centennial.

2007

Boys & Girls Clubs Wilson Park Unit is established.

Boys & Girls Clubs Fairmount Unit is established.

Boys & Girls Clubs Frankford Valley Unit is closed.

Boys & Girls Clubs Feltonville Unit is renamed to Boys & Girls Clubs Police Officer Lauretha Vaird Unit after the first woman police officer killed in the line of duty in Philadelphia.
