A great big THANK YOU to all participants who came to Henry Reed Hatfield field across from Nicetown Boys & Girls Club on August 7th to enjoy fun activities at National KidsDay. Sunday's event brought hundreds of kids who played basketball and double Dutch, football, soccer and good old games like hula-hoops and beanbag tic-tac-toe; took hip-hop dance lessons and participated in dance contests, painted faces and t-shirts, made sand art, bead jewelry and foam sculpture, bounced in the giant inflatable castle and cooled off under a water spray, and ate soft pretzels, hot dogs with everything, and cotton candy chased with icy lemonade, just perfect on a hot day.
- Presenting Sponsor Alternative Work Environments of Conshohocken offered a tent with Early Learning Center computers for very young children. Thanks to their volunteer, Tim, and to President Steve Russell for this generous support!
- Wawa Markets donated the food and drinks enjoyed by all.
- Board member Steve Highsmith made sure we had a Channel 17 camera crew filming the activities.
- In addition to Club staff, volunteers included Board members Tony Free and Kassem Lucas; Young Friends of BGCP Committee members Davida Garr and Mike Stewart; Angie Louie, whose last day as a BGCP employee was Friday; Joy Capponi and Philadelphia Dance Theater; and Meisha Thompson, our webmaster. Extra points to Davida, Angie, Joy and Kassem for bringing at least one additional volunteer each. It was great to have more activities in addition to those offered by the Clubs.
National KidsDay was founded to promote family time, and BGCP’s celebration was filled with families enjoying the afternoon together. This year, over 1,700 Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide held National KidsDay Celebrations!
