Philadelphia, Pa. - Boys
and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia (BGCP) will host its twenty-sixth annual
“Touching a Life Gala” on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at The Ritz Carlton
Philadelphia at 6:00 p.m. The Gala is a
major fundraising effort that enables the BGCP to provide a positive place for
over 15,000 youth. Michael B. Pollack,
former BGCP Chairman and current Reed Smith partner and the firm’s Global Head
of Strategy, will be honored for his dedication to the youth of Philadelphia.
Mr. Pollack, BGCP Chairman from 1996-1999, was the volunteer
leader of the organization during its transition into a citywide operation.
Under his leadership, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia increased the
number of its sites throughout the city to more effectively serve youth between
the ages of 6 and 18. Also during Mr. Pollack’s time as Chair, the organization
dramatically expanded its after-school and day care programs, and expanded
community-wide partnerships with groups like the Police Athletic League, the
United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and the Salvation Army.
Currently, Mr. Pollack is in his twenty-fifth year with Reed
Smith LLP, one of the largest law firms in the world. He is responsible for strategic planning
related to the firm’s growth which recently has included expansion in the UK,
Europe, Middle East and Asia. In addition to his current role as BGCP
Advisory Council Member, Michael serves as the Dean of the Reed Smith
University School of Leadership and Chairman of the Securities and Regulatory
Affairs Committee of the Investment Program Association.
"Michael has a big heart and the brains, drive and
determination to take any organization with which he is associated to a higher
level of efficiency and effectiveness. I can think of no one who has touched
more lives in a positive way than Michael," said Claudia Springer, Managing
Partner of Reed Smith’s Philadelphia office. "We are proud of his long association with Boys and Girls Clubs and
congratulate him on this well-deserved honor."
A live six-station representation of Boys & Girls Clubs
