Keystone Club teens from various area clubs
attended this dynamic event for food, fun and discussion. Volunteers from the
Urban League of Philadelphia helped organize and run the event.
Keystone Clubs are chartered, small group leadership
development clubs for youth ages 14 to18. Keystone Club members elect club
officers, choose their activities and design and implement community service
projects. A national charter entitles a Keystone Club to participate in
regional and national Keystone conferences funded by the Taco Bell Foundation.
Every year, Keystone clubs around the country participate in the National Keystone Project.
The National Keystone Club has chosen this theme for their project: "Young
America Acts: Can You See Us Now?" The project is a teen-led
initiative geared to help change the views many adults have of American youth.
The Keystone Club members have been challenged to do the following: 1.
Address the issue of teen stereotyping through collaborative partnerships with
local media; 2. Showcase the positive contributions that teens make in American
society, and; 3. Develop critical collaborations with community leaders and/or
stakeholders.
Within that theme, the KEYSTONE LEGENDS have decided to focus their
energies on the prevention of teen pregnancies and issues surrounding
misconceptions of teenage promiscuity. Some of these issues had been discussed
at the Keystone Gathering. The Keystone Club plans to view a related film on
November 1st, 2007 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Though still in the planning stages, the activity will require parental
permission. Keystone Club members have begun collecting information materials
and other donations to fill give away bags for those who participate in the
film night. If you would like to support this initiative please contact: Jamie
