Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia & Deloitte& Touche USA Send 2,000 Kids to Phillies Game!

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia sent 2,000 kids to Citizens Bank Park for Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia Day for the game between the Phillies and the Washington Nationals. Thanks to Deloitte’s generous donation and the dedicated efforts of Boys & Girls Club Board Chairman John Rooney, Principal & Managing Director of Deloitte Consulting in Philadelphia, 2,000 children packed the stands to cheer on the Phillies. Rooney observed, "Deloitte is proud to work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia and the Phillies to help make a positive contribution to the lives of Philadelphia's youth.  Bringing 2,000 youth to a Phillies game gives these young people a positive experience and shows them that people and organizations in Philadelphia do care about them and want to see them succeed.  When non profits, businesses and our sports teams join together for our kids...the entire community is the beneficiary,"

Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia has been serving the area’s children since 1887 with the mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Maintaining locations at 12 sites citywide, Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia offers a safe haven from the streets to over 15,000 youth. The agency’s year-round programs offer young people what they need and want most: adults who respect and listen to them, provide a moral compass, and inspire them to develop positive values; a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves; and interesting, constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits. "By reaching children at an early age and providing them with encouragement, we give them an alternative to youth crime, gangs, drugs, and other negative influences," Jeffrey Waldron, CPO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia said when asked about how to stem the recent increase in homicides and juvenile violent crime.

In addition to sporting club t-shirts and Phillies caps, the youth of BGCP were treated to base running after the game. A special thank you to Kathy Killian, the Phillies & Citizens Bank Park, Deloitte & Touche USA, BGCP Staff and parents!
