Keystoning is the Boys & Girls Club Movement's most dynamic teen program. Keystone Clubs
are chartered leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 14-18. Keystoners elect
officers and implement activities in six areas: service to Club and community, character
and leadership development, education and career exploration, unity, free enterprise and
social recreation. Mr. Mark Williams is the advisor for Keystone.
Torch Clubs are chartered small-group leadership and service clubs for
boys and girls ages 11-13. A Torch Club is a powerful vehicle through which
Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger
adolescents at a critical stage in their development. Torch Club members
learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four
areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness and
social recreation. Mrs. Laciana Jones is the advisor for Torch Club.
Power Hour / homework help runs Monday thru Friday from 4:30 - 5:30pm.
Members are helped with homework or additional academic enrichment. On
Fridays, different academic marathons and games are done for prizes and
certificates. Once a month, points for Power Hour are added up for members
to receive recognition for their achievement and participation in Power
Hour. Mr. Kwand Lang is the instructor for Power Hour.
Career Launch is an online program that our teens participate in to learn
important and key work readiness skills. The program includes a portfolio
(online and tangible) for resumes, cover letters, applications, etc.
The infamous basketball leagues of the Northeast Frankford Boys and Girls
Club will be participating in the jr. nba and jr. wbna. The league will
consist of 8 teams, an all-star game and play-off games. This programs
begins in December and goes through March / April. Mr. Eric Hawthorne is
the league commissioner.
The game room is equipped with pool tables, ping-pong, air hockey, board
games, chess and checkers and tournaments to suite everyone! This area is
for chillin or hardcore game playing. Mr. Mark Williams is the instructor
for the game room.
The Northeast Frankford Boys and Girls Club has a drill team that performs
locally and up and down the east coast! Performances vary but practices
are help every Tuesday from 7pm until 8:30pm and every Friday from
7:30pm until 9pm. Practices are held at the Club. Ms. Sherry Robinson is
instructor for the drill team.
Arts and Crafts are offered daily for all members. Creative projects are
done so that creative processes can take place! Ms. Sherry Robinson is the
arts and crafts instructor.
Get your dance on! We now offer dance and drama lessons by a former
Philadanco dancer, Latoya Gramby. The schedule is as follows: Monday 6-8p
- dance; Tuesday 6-8p - acting 101; Wednesday 6-7p - hip hop dance, 7-8p - acting
101; Thursday 6-8p - acting 101; Friday 6-7p - ADULT LINE DANCING, 7-8p - acting 101.
Please note, adult classes are for parents/guardians of
members and he cost is $3.00 per class. For all other adults, the cost is $5.00 per class.
Graphic Arts is in growing demand. Not only does this class help to express the creativity
of our members, it also helps prepare them for the future. Graphic Arts is taught by Mr.
Greg Taylor.
Sigma Phi Sigma is a passport to manhood program for young men. This
program promotes and teaches responsibility and reinforces positive behavior
in male Club members ages 11-14. Passport to Manhood consists of 14
small-group sessions, each of which concentrates on a specific aspect of
manhood through highly interactive activities. Each participant is issued
his own "Passport" to underscore the notion that he is on a personal journey
of maturation and personal growth. Mr. Greg Taylor is the instructor for
Sigma Phi Sigma / Passport to Manhood.
Girls Stepping Up (GSU) is a SMART girls program. SMART Girls is a health,
fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls
ages 8-17. The program focuses on issues specific to female Club members and
is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable
those members to develop to their full potential. From interactive role
playing to more tailored mentoring, girls are given the opportunity to
explore personal and societal values as they build skills for eating right,
staying fit, getting good health care and developing positive relationships.
SMART Kids, for children ages 6-9, is a component of SMART moves (Skills
Mastery and Resistance Training) , a nationally acclaimed comprehensive
prevention program that helps young people resist alcohol, tobacco and other
drug use, as well as premature sexual activity. The program features
engaging, interactive small group activities designed to increase
participants' peer support, enhance their life skills, build their
resiliency and strengthen their leadership skills. This year-round program
encourages collaborations among Club staff, youth, parents and
representatives from other community organizations.
