The Bridesburg Boys & Girls Club was built in 1941 and served only boys until 1976 when girls were welcomed into the organization. Within a few years our membership began to grow and we found the need to expand. A full size gymnasium was added to the existing building in 1981, and during the summer of that year we became a licensed childcare center, specializing in after-school programming. Within the next 10 years a parking lot and an outdoor roller hockey rink were added to accommodate the growing number of youth who enjoyed this new sport.
In 1997, to meet the ever-changing needs in Bridesburg and its surrounding communities, we introduced a new facility called the Li'l Clubhouse, a childcare center for children six weeks through five years of age. In the fall of 1998, through a generous partnership with the non-profit organization Kaboom, a playground was constructed with the outstanding efforts and labor of community residents, City-Year volunteers, and employees of the Rohm and Haas Company.
In July of 2000, “bridging the digital divide” became a top priority and the club became one of the first PowerUP sites in the United States through the generosity of PowerUP and AOL. Our unit received 20 new Internet accessible Gateway computers. In November of 2000, “Squash Studios” played its way into the program as our very own, newly built, newly equipped, music sound studio. We continue to grow. Our membership has topped 1000 in each of the last five years. The Bridesburg Boys & Girls Club is a treasure tucked among industry along the Delaware River and all who have passed through its doors in the past 60 years can proudly boast that they were once a part of The POSITIVE Place for Kids!!
